Need help with awkward living room layout
Comments (3)I disagree with the above comments. If you're open to big changes, especially if you plan on replacing the fireplace, you could install a lower mantle, and install the TV above it on a swing arm. This way, the TV and fireplace will remain the focus in the centre of the room, while still being able to view the TV wherever you deem most comfortable on any given day. I think the oblong shape of the room would allow for a couple different seating arrangements. Looking at the second image (fireplace on the right), imagine a compact love seat with it's back facing the double doors. Across from the love seat, 2 accent chairs, backs facing the photographer. Add a coffee table of your choice, and you now have a conversation space in front of the fireplace that is also ideal for watching TV. Thinking about the space behind the love seat, closest to the double doors; a half-height, full-width bookshelf would be lovely along the right wall (left of the fireplace), or even a cushioned bench seat with storage underneath, or both! One orientation to the right of the fireplace, and one to the left. Behind the love seat you could place a console table with lamps and accent decor that would create a visual division, making each seating area seem more intimate and purposeful. Add a full-width, floor length set of drapes on either side of the double doors and area rugs under each seating area and Bob's your uncle!...See Moreneed advice on doung up my living room
Comments (1)For starters your T.V. is way too high lower it to sit virtually on the mantel and take all the stuff off the mantle. If you are getting storage built get 2 made so one on each side of the fireplace for balance. I don't see what you have for lighting now and find the finish on the walls very busy. When I look at your idea books I am not really getting that same feel in the space as it is so maybe some more pictures would help with that....See MoreSmall Living room, awkward layout
Comments (0)Hi, I'm trying to rearrange my living room but having a bit of difficulty. The room has 3 doors in it (1 hall door, 1 kitchen door & 1 door for under the stairs). There's also a fireplace and then one large window. I'm trying to create space for while already having the likes of our tv, 2 & 3 seater sofas so to have the room prepared for when Christmas rolls around! Any help or advice would be great, I will put up a pic later :) Thanks, Aisling...See MoreOpen Plan Kitchen \ Living Design Advice
Comments (0)Hi, We're looking for some design options for a house we are planning to buy. We love the house location but the kitchen \ living area is proving to be a bit of a dilemma. There is a lot of glass in the kitchen area with full length windows to the front and rear which limits the options for layouts. We had a kitchen design prepared but are unsure if this really makes the best use of the space - it includes a corner dining area which while using the space feels a bit cramped for a family of 5. Due to the door position into the kitchen the builders design looks odd as they have placed the kitchen table right in line of sight of the front door so placing the table there seems a no no. We want to have an island in the kitchen ( its plumbed etc for one ) which we can have up to 5 high seats around which is in the design. We would like to have a TV in the room ( again limited places to put one on the walls due to the glass ) and would like some suggestions on layouts there also ( maybe the TV has to go ! ) - without something that completely blocks the access to the rear doors. Any thoughts gratefully received !...See MoreiMarc-Pro Architects
