Extension help which style should I go with? Picture 1, 2 or 3
Please help!
We hadn’t fully realised the consequences of having a ‘warm roof’ L and now there is a huge amount of block work above our picture windows and sliding door (see pictures) We’ve spoke with the builder to see if the height can be reduced but that is not an option, so we now need to decide how to finish off the walls and roof. Should we take the render as high as possible with a small lip at the top as in Picture 1 or have large grey PVC fascia’s as in Picture 2 or a bit of both (Picture 3)? Neither picture reflects what we’d initially visualised but we need to move on and make the most of what we have so views and or suggestions would be great. Need to let him know by Monday!!
By the way the windows and doors will be anthracite grey and the render an off white/cream, the roof is a anthracite grey fibre glass.

5 years agolast modified: 5 years agoThank you. I'm sorry I don't have specific details for the fibre glass roof. We do however have one at the front over the porch so were trying to match up, it was done about 4 years ago and we're very happy with it to date. To be honest we went with what we knew and didn't investigate further.

Comments (16)My 2¢ worth: first of all replace the dark blinds with translucent cordless single cell blinds in ivory or off-white--they let light through and provide privacy + some insulation from cold or heat. Clean, crisp look.That alone will brighten up this space. #2: clear the counterspace!--so much clutter! Where to put all these appliances that get little daily use? Get yourself a ss 24x20 or larger cart on wheels (see Amazon.com--Seville classic ss cart) and store little used, bulky appliances on its shelves--and roll the cart into a nearby coat closet--out of sight and way-- to be wheeled back when needed or individually carried back as needed. 3#gorgeous blue tiled walls.Don't touch them. #4:Walls: keep as is if off-white--not same as trim white white.Just a fresh coat needed.To make it "disappear," paint the radiator the same color as the wall behind it. #5Keep the white trim white--looks bright and clean.Keep kitchen door white. You might want to stop here and make no further changes #6Cabinets: I like Gast pic above on right, but too much blue for your blue-tiled kitchen...IMO. I'd go cooler and lighter...consider the light gray of the beadboard in the Gast pic above right. Beautiful hue. Don't go for the white white everyone clamors for these days.Too stark for your kitchen and too contrasty with the blue tile, too country kitchenish. #7. cabinet hardware: Look like glass knobs in pics. Go for knobs/pulls like in the Gast pic above--or similar in pewter or ss, my preference. Those "modern" ss bar handles don't work with your cabinets. #8 the round table is not a good fit against the wall. Get a small sq or rectangular ss or butcherblock-top table for that spot. Chop off the top tier of your chairs to shorten....and match their tops as they are now so's won't appear to take up so much visual space and still remain comfy--don't replace w/ uncomfortable stools.Keep white. #9. Do away with wood valance over sink window.Too country. #10 Countertops--solid color Corian type or laminate--depends on budget--don't want busy stone textures of quartz, etc. Consider a medium value cool gray. (Or maple butcherblock?). Can't see color/texture of floor.... hope some of this helps. Comments (103)Hi snan - to address your questions: 1 - yes, the lamps work very well. With regard to the height of the larger lamps: do you know how high they would be? If the bottom of the lampshade is even with the top of the pillows that should work. If they are taller than that I think you will be okay with the smaller lamps. Look back again at some of the pictures above to see what I mean. The thing that will look odd would be if the top of the lamps were taller than your headboard. The idea is that when you are in bed reading a book that you want the light to be able to reflect down. As far as the lampshade size goes on the smaller lamps I'm thinking the shorter ones since they don't seem to drop down as far as the larger ones. 2 & 3-Definitely chair by the mirrored bedside locker with one white locker on the other side. Without question. The chair to the left of the bed gave the room life. Use the extra white one in a closet or another room. You don't want to overcrowd your room when you are going for a tranquil setting. 4-Absolutely okay to have bedside tables that don't match and look good in the room. Whether or not you like that is a personal preference though. I would only put the mirrored one next to the bed though if you have the chair next to it. It's how they play off each other that makes it work. If you don't keep the chair next to the bed then I would use both white tables beside the bed. Comments (2)Hello Edel, Well you are in the fortunate place having a loo and shower downstairs.. I am sure this might become useful when the boys are older.. So if you wanted more wardrobe space.. This doesn't have to involve wall to wall cupboards.. You could have free standing wardrobes.. A bigger bathroom would mean you could have double wall hung sinks and large walk in shower and a separate bath.. Wall hung loo as well.. Or possibly you could create a wet room style shower and loo and separate walk in closet.. accessed from your bedroom. Keep a bathroom next door.. Hard to tell if any of these ideas could work without a plan.. : ))...See Morekeswing
