Help! Colour for a dark kitchen

Need help in deciding what colour to paint our kitchen. It has pale cream units and a far grey tiled floor. It is at the back of the house and is very dark. We like greys (lounge and bedroom both have grey theme) and the Dining room is in F&B Peignor so ideally would like a colour to complement both.

Although it may seem stark I would recommend RAL9016 for the walls and ceiling. It is a strong white and would compliment your greys and creams. The Roman blinds on the windows are blocking light !

I think it can be stunning! I agree with cabinets to the ceiling except use cdrown molding for the English look you desire. By all means good lighting however to achieve the look do not use harsh lighting. Have dimmers and have a smallish lamp on one of your countertops for ambient lighting. I do suggest Carrera marble if you go grey or hammered stainless (to resemble pewter) if you go dark blue for your countertops and pl;ease consider hanging some antique mirror. I have a wonderful photo of a tiny deep blue kitchen and cannot seem to lay my hands on it. If I find it soon I will post it for you. I hope you will go for it and post photos! Hope this helps. :)

What I have always thought is, if you try to "match" an existing floor it looks like you tried and missed. When you go with something completely different, the result is yes, I wanted something different, and here it is. Especially if you lay it in a different direction. Does that make sense?

Are you overlooked? If not then taking away the blinds, using a brilliant white paint and reflective surfaces will help a great deal. Good luck x

On the walls I go for soft grey paint from crown/ dulux

Cloud burst or

elephants breath

get rid of those blinds and inplace put white slatted chunky wooden Venetian blinds

this will give it a modern look

i would also add a very large clock into one of the walks

is your work top grankte as can’t make that out seems like greyish work top ?

Remove all clutter from your windowsills to allow the light to flood in. Only put one or two objects per windowsill if you need something there but nothing wide or tall as it will cast large shadow thus blocking light. Remove blinds and only replace if you absolutely need them, I have an east facing kitchen which is dark also much of the end of the day, you could use lightweight small white venetian blinds which fit into the window frame up against the glass, not the outside of the window aperture. Fit a letterbox shape mirror on the wall (read up about the perfect picture height to help you judge hanging it - 57cm). Duluth sail white is a beautiful very very very light grey if you put it next to white it’s just slightly grey. Good luck.

P.s. if you can’t change your flooring, which is almost black and sucks the light out, put something lighter on it like a jute rug runner in front of your units to lighten and soften it.

Your kitchen looks lovely but I think it could do with a dash of colour to add depth and interest. Especially if it tends to be dark and cold. We have a north facing cream kitchen and went for F&B tallow on the walls to bounce the light but give some warmth and then used orange as an accent colour which makes it really cosy and cheerful. It works well in our 70s house but you may prefer a warm aubergine for example. Good luck!

If you don’t want to change the paint how about introducing colour on the seats with cushions and the window blinds in the same colour or pattern. Go for something bold this is a cushion I made
