Arghh! Need help with colour decision.
Upcycling a cabinet and just cannot decide which colour to use.
To give you an idea of what I intend to do i’ll be using Matthew Williamson’s butterfly wheel design either on the drawer fronts or the top or both. Turquoise fish on the sides of the drawers, these won’t be seen when drawers are shut. and then the colour I can’t decide on will be used on the trims and legs. Undecided yet wether to include flamingos or not.
I’ve narrowed the selection down to four colours but can’t decide between them. Arghh!
Hoping to achieve a very colourful piece which is utterly eccentric, much like Matthew Williamson’s style.
Any ideas, colour choice?

Comments (33)Hi catbox/emerald18 - your kitchen is absolutely stunning - I love it - mostly because your style is the same as mine - only the tiles I've chosen are Henley Cool from Topps Tiles (sage green/blue). I've also had a few moments of indecision but I've had a picture and sample of the tiles pinned up for months and I still love them. I'd chosen matt slab style kitchen door fronts but I might be convinced by your photo to change to Shaker. I am also going for the wood worktop but can't decide whether to have a Belfast sink or not. What sink did you choose? I also can't decide on a splashback, but like white painted brick + something more cleanable by the sink and hob. Comments (12)I think you should consider houssaon's idea of painting it the same color as the walls. Is the top of the tv console painted wood or is it a stone or composite? In the pictures my ipad shows me speckles (not dirt!!). My ipad sometimes *lies* to me. :) If the gray is the prominent color in the paint, maybe a darker gray would be a good choice too. If you are happy with the gray/green color next to your bookcases, then you should be able to pick a gray that would look good with both the new paint, and the bookcase. Comments (11)I love the tall units but you need to go straight to the ceiling to prevent dust and dirt settling on the top. I would put a row of small up and over cupboards along the very top as an option. Very handy for unsightly bulky items. I don't like the end open shelves by sink very dated but what you could do is a long double shelf all the way along the island with a wine racking either side for balance vertically. I think shelving each side of the sink would be better. You have a lot of cupboards but no deep drawers which are highly valued these days. Good selling point. I Like your colour suggestions... The little Greene paint company have a lovely grey so does farrow and ball. Where are you sourcing your Quartz and what flooring? Do your ovens have easy open shelf doors ..handy as they retract so don't get in the way as you take food out..Neff offer best ones. If you want a better balance of tall you could always do fridge freezer one side and pull out pantry on the other with racking. Then on sink side don't go all the way along the wall just have it as centred space so you can pull out larder doors. On your island you will need your bin as this'll be prep area? What is the room opposite tall cupboards? Need the island to look good from that side as that is what you will see. Hope of help. 5 years agoHi, If you don't have a specific home for it at the moment then I would try to not to include too much. I think in that case that the deeper blue, green or even black would work well and perhaps adding a decorative butterfly handler (attached a few ideas). I would leave the fish and flamingo off this piece and save it for your future projects.

5 years agoI love teal as well Niekko, one of my favorites:) I like the butterfly handles PAL, I will keep an eye out for some. Have added some more colour options more in the way of blues. Ok, one is a rubber glove and the other is my boys shorts...all I could find....but I can get them colour matched. (Please ignore plant pots, they’re just there to stop everything from blowing away). Pink will be used to line interior of drawers. Thoughts on blues? (Also include a pic of the Duresta day bed in this pattern which has inspired me).

5 years agoThanks all. I see what you mean about the saturation Colourhappy, I’m guessing that’s what I’m after tho. The pattern to be the secondary focus and the trim and legs to be the primary focus. So when you look at it, it kinda smacks you in the face and says “look at me”:) Possible other option could be either a verdigris paint effect or a pearly glaze.....hmmmm. Looking at the colours again I’m drawn towards Aegean aqua, could paint it and see where we go from there.

This first pic is a colour palette on the wall I have been painting in it - I don’t know how much the sun affected it today - it was glaring

My wall does look more like the second one - I think the sun must have had an impact - but yes, that is the colour I believe you should go for! :)

I’m all about the Mexican colours but also less is more with colour - here is a graffiti wall in town that is covered in the Mexican colours - I like the teal, pink and yellow but again would never use them in overload - that would just look tacky!
I’ve seen reds, oranges and yellows done well too although that is not on your scheme.

5 years agoHi Rachel. If you're after colour I'd look at the paint effect with the colours used on the chest of drawers I've inserted (can't remember what the effect is called!). If you want quirky then I quite like the butterfly decoupage on the front of the drawers but using your wallpaper colours for the butterflies (I'd also add a couple in the "ochre" that's in your paper to lift it).. I also like the simple brass knobs

5 years agoMaking some essential repairs for now. It was in a poor state when I got it and the majority is made from plywood. So I’ve made a new top and front panel and fixing and filling has been done today, primer going on tomorrow hopefully. Here’s how it looked when I got it. Did have a nasty kidney shape chipboard top and triple mirror but they were beyond saving.

5 years agoJust want give everyone an update. Halfway there (working on it in my spare time so taking ages) and colour has been chosen! Couldn’t decide myself so I let my son choose one and he picked Amalfi Coast (Valspar). The photos don’t do the colour justice, in real life it’s a lot more of a vivid jade/emerald. Also got a tall wall mirror in need of repair/update to go with it. I love this stage when you finally see something coming together:) x
