Design Dilemma Living Rooms

Help! how should I arrange my living room furniture?

I'd love some advice on how to arrange my living room furniture, starting with a completely blank canvas. The room will be used as a child-free retreat, mainly in the evenings for reading, watching movies and some entertaining. The window faces south east so it is bright during the day and looks over the front garden. We will probably get built ins around the fireplace to store books.

I am thinking about getting a corner sofa oriented towards the tv on the right side of the fireplace but I am worried then that the wall opposite the window will just be blank. I'd like to put a chair there too but when you are entering the room I think it will appear to stick out a lot. What could I put on that wall?

Could I orient the room the opposite way by putting the tv on the left of the fireplace or would that feel strange entering the room between couches?

Would it be better if the door opened the opposite way?

What size should the sofa be, given the room is 4.1x4.2m?

I have attached a diagram of the room layout and what I am thinking currently.

Will the radiator be an issue if you want to put TV to left of fireplace? Though it is a more prominent position, you could put the TV over to the right of the fireplace. Back to the window is better as regards glare on the screen if you are watching it during the day time. I would put your sofa in the middle of the room facing the fireplace. then I would put an armchair with its back to the window pointing in towards the sofa. This can be pulled sort of in front of the TV/ forward from the TV which will push the TV into the background and demonstrate that it is not your dominant feature. When you do want to watch TV you can push the armchair over a bit so you can see the TV from the sofa. Alternatively, put the TV with its back to the wall around where the mirror is leaning in your picture. And use houseology's great TV unit on castors idea whichever side you choose! Simple yet genius as you can push the TV right into the corner out of the way when not using - might use that one myself.

hey everyone, So i'm sooo undecided on how to bring our living room together. We painted the chimney breast choc brown and the fire place cream which I like the look of. We have and a brown and flecked cream carpet and duck egg/ brown/ cream /gold striped curtains. The couches are yellowy cream colour but we may be changing them to cream and getting an L shaped couch. The bookcase came with the place so we probably move that out and the sideboard is going in the kitchen where there is a glass cabinet at the moment ( ill also attach photo of the kitchen) and will be getting a different one for the space. The TV stand is a warm oak and the nest of tables are beech. I can't decide on whether to get an oak and cream painted coffee table like this One http://www.greatfurnituretradingco.c...m-coffee-table .I saw it in a shop in dublin but they don't have it online to link it to. Or else a light oak one see image attached. I like the matching sideboard to the light oak coffee table but was unsure if I got both it'd be too matched. Our living room is north facing so a cold room so would want furniture to warm it up. Would get a rug aswell for under the coffee table. Was thinking of putting floating cream shelves above the sideboard and then a nice picture above the couch at the back of the room. I've attached photos of my living room and the furniture. What do people think?? Any tips and advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
