Help exterior house update.

I am changing/ updating my front steps to light grey paving slabs.
painting the red retaining wall and porch roof tiles to grey too.(paint choice: valspar carriage wheel- inspired by booandmaddie.
Now the house part, should I leave the brickpart in red paint? or also paint grey??
i dont want to end up with too much grey. Suggestions please,!

Alright guys. Went ahead and painted my house grey/ retaining wall and grey paving steps. Grrr... now something does not look right to me.
*Is it because is a drastic change from my red house which I had for ages and I need to get used to the new colour?

I quite like the steps, the retaining wall surrounding the house, the painted roof of the porch but not sure about the grey at the front of the house?
please give suggestions. The guy painting is coming back tomorrow to krend sides of steps and paint the black plinth.

In believe, that you should paint everything, which was red in grey as in my opinion leaving it in read, would be a bit of mishmash

I also think it would look great if all the front of the house is all colour coded with the grey,

you could also have an idea from a project that i have done in grey on my web site

its is a similar to the colour, that you have picked,

i would also paint the windows and the door a darker grey to the walls,just the way how done mine in my project, by doing this it will make you doors and the windows standout, valspur paints from b&q does primer for plastics or brand called krylon for plastic

i would also do the drive way a dark grey colour driveway paving and rebuild the wall by using blue bricks with coloured coded mortar mix.

My understanding: You didn't find any problem functionally, but you feel this looks old & need some brightness & change in this. My advise: 1). Remove towel rod, shift it next to tub or behind closet & have full length mirror, which will make your space double & reflect natural light as well thus makes the space more bright. 2). Get couple of plants (small plants or bush type or creepers which doesn't occupy much space on floor but grows vertically). 3). Get some artifacts made from bright colored glass, can flower vase or wall hangings or glass tiles etc, these can be of yellow or Bright Orange color these are to be hung on walls opp to mirror or pasted(3M tape both side glued) if you are using tiles. 4). Get a mat of same color as artifacts & place between tub & closet. these all are easily done by yourself. OR if you can afford to then replace only green tiles & floor tiles if you wish to OR all tiles.

hello bonnielynn75 and THANK YOU! your comment put a smile on my face re the red on the interior side of the door. It IS red on the inside as well, he insisted on that when we purchased it. no one here has it red on the inside and I wanted it to be white on the inside. do you see my dilemma?;) I agree with everything you are saying, I suppose this is the reason why so far I was not 100% sure about the black for the door either, although I like black...Agree, there is too much wall and I find the house to be looking a bit 'bland' and would like to change that. I LOVE shutters, but read somewhere that you never put shutters on wide windows, so got unsure about that, too...but perhaps just the one as I stated earlier. Would the color on that shutter be the same as the door (if I ever settle on a door color)? Unfortunately window boxes are not an option as we have quite a few cats and they may be used as litter boxes;) please don't tell me to get rid of the cats;)... Regarding the stoop (entrance) : we need to add another step (made of cement) on top of the existing step: it was removed when the new door was fitted. We were thinking of putting slate tiles or something dark to match the roof, if that makes any sense.... It is porous cement so unsuitable for painting, I think. What place in Ireland did you visit, we are close to the Irish Sea in the country surrounded by sheep;)...

Hi guys, Leelee we are definitely doing the vintage bits on the wall. We actually have some vintage cereal boxes that we are planning on displaying on the shelves (filled with cereal of course)!. Sarainitaly - I'm investigating thenIkea planner but it's painful to work (or maybe it's just me!). Here's a pic of the walls totally painted green now. Think the shelves will look great along with some pictures dotted around. It's the cabinets now that will b a pain! BTW it was pure enthusiasm that stopped me waiting until the water heater came off the wall to paint - lol. I will have to paint the patch when it's off.

I would go for a stone colour so not too dissimilar to what you've got. Little Greene does a good stone colour too but will work out a bit expensive. This is Oxford stone by farrow and ball. If you were doing the windows and front door then maybe an old white with door and windows in french grey

Yes paint the front of the house grey. The red paint is so dated so get rid of it! I don’t mind the driveway paving and I think it will sit well with the grey walls of the house.

I would paint the red brick grey, then update the steps to a grey.
Then I would stop and see if the drive is still an issue. Personally I think that with a contemporary colour in the house the drive will just need smartening up which will need a pressure washer and some oversized pots.
You can also stain the brick paviers to a dark grey colour.

Thanks everyone! great suggestions. will paint the front part of house- grey and update my steps to grey paving. Time to get rid off the red..wonder what my neighbours will think, All red here!
on a small budget other bits will have to wait.

A waca plate with sand (or compactor plate) is a good way apparently to clean up block paving. I would remove a section of the paving near the wall at the front to provide some much needed planting.

Wow I think it is a vast improvement! It does make the paving look a bit tired though, however a good power wash may improve it. Is the wall in front of the house ready for planting? Some nice low growing shrubs or perennials will cheer it up no end.

I too think some planting below the bay in particular will break up the new grey and give some visual depth and then it will look fab. Great job and so quick too! I bet some of your neighbours will be painting in the next few months after seeing your efforts.

it looks good,

below the bay window is miss some grey colour , on the black paint that you left,

and under the door, would look nice either painted grey or continued with the floor slabs cut to size.

Thank you everyone. And if you all say it is an improvement, then I am sure will get used to it with time.
Forza Italia and Emily, I know I do need some greenery around but I must confess am not green fingered at all and so is my husband.
I have always loved seeing topiaries and mini conifers, maybe I could do artificial ones? Also fancy tall planters either side of front step kind of thing, what do you guys think?

Do whatever feels comfortable for you - we can only make suggestions. If you can’t do plants then fake it! I saw some nice ones in Sainsbury’s the other day, but there are loads available online. You’ve made a great start, and it’s lovely to see the results.
