Hi please could you tell me about the topmost units, are they kitchen units or panelled bulkhead?

Top row are functional upper cabinets flush with the high cabinets below. Ceiling height is 9'

if you're not going to center the dining room table under the light, then I'd tend toward a flush or semi-flush fixture, to de-emphasize the alignment. You might want to remove the medallion from the ceiling too. As for the kitchen it looks like you have decent overall lighting -- maybe you're looking for a couple of pendants over the island? simple glass globes, maybe? here are a few styles to start you out.

I agree, blinds, they are large windows so that is a lot of material / expense if you go down the curtain route, plus curtains may block out light. We have sliding doors like yours and have chosen to keep them free of any covering, however we are not overlooked. You might also want to consider translucent / sheer roller blinds which offer moderate privacy yet still retain a degree of visibility. We have them on our front windows for privacy as we are in a single storey house / bungalow, people can't see in (during the day) but we can see out. We also have curtains with them in the sitting room as we wanted it to be more cosy / private at night. In the other rooms we have another blind that sits over the sheer blinds, but this wouldn't work for all windows.

We have built an extension in which our kitchen/ dining room will be. The kitchen will be along the wall of one side. There is a step up in the ceiling of the extension. I am wondering if it would look strange to have cabinets running along the wall with a change in the ceiling height.
