Water draining in shower??

Thinking of using river rock in shower, but wasnt sure if there might be any issues with the water draining or mold issues? Any advice or tips to share?

Thanks for your query. A good tile mason is they key. You need the proper slope to the drain, and a nice, smooth grout job. In addition, we always recommend moisture-sensing vent fans, which help to properly evacuate the residual moisture.

About your plumber saying "plumb layout is confirmed". That is a load of rubbish. It's fairly easy to move drains around (yes he might have to rip up some walls, but he can also do off-the-wall installations to avoid that). In a small bath proper placement is of the utmost importance!!! If you have the bathtub and shower next to each other that will be much better and then the glass separator idea should work. padmaramachandran's (see post above) setup sounds more reasonable to me as well (see first picture below). This is similar to your setup but as you have more space you could put in bath tub and shower where the picture only shows a bath tub. Also if you do it that way you could theoretically have a bidet or a wider wash basin (small double perhaps too). Example layout: Do you need a bathtub in the guest bath? If not you have a lot more room to work with. E.g. for a double wash basin and large walking shower and a bidet (2nd picture). Example of off-the-wall installation for toilet and bidet and a large walking shower. Finally if you ignore this advice and do it the way you planned ;) then I suggest you really thing about that glass separator. Doing it right will make a lot of difference (see 3rd picture). Put in a few French drains where you dig a ditch and fill it with crushed rock to help the water drain. In low spots put in some drains [http://www.homedepot.com/p/Tuf-Tite-16-in-2-Hole-Drain-Sump-with-Grate-and-Seals-2HDS-4/203463511] with pipe running to the French drain. You might also need to bring in 10 yards of top soil along with some sand to raise your yard a bit as you're probably right at the water table level. We've had to do all this as we live in the Pacific Northwest in a reclaimed marsh [a nice word for a swamp] where we hit the water table if we dig down 3". We had to put down about 10 yards of top soil along with some sand to raise our back yard. We also dug a French drain along the back to connect to the associations drainage pipes through the neighborhood. My husband has put in at least 3 of the drains in strategic locations around the yard to help drain off the excess water. Our yard isn't perfect, but it isn't the swamp it was the first couple of years we were here. We have to apply moss killer every spring or it takes over the yard. My husband also puts down lime to soften the soil, and help the water drain easier. He and a friend rent an aerator every summer and do both our yards to help with the drainage as well.

Glass surround on shelf? Add plants to soak up overspray? Maybe have a carpenter extend out that wall so you can tile it flush with tub enclosure?You're right that this is a challenge. Without ripping it out, I can't see any great options. I worry that water damage over the long run would cost more than a remodel now.

Are Victorian Tiles suitable for a shower?

Hi, I want to use Original Style Victorian tiles in my ensuite. The area is small, so I want to run the tiles into the shower. Floor is slightly sloped to one side within the shower area, where there is a long drain, therefore the tiler said there will be no problem with laying the tiles. However, he questioned their suitability for a shower floor. I am happy with the slip rating, but concerned that water and soap, etc. may damage the tiles. Has anyone any experience with using them on a shower floor?
