Hi all. Just moving into a new house. The pictures attached are from the show house. I don't like the decor and find it just really bland and boring. I want the room to feel cosy and rustic, without being too expensive to redecorate. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Hi lisa -- I'm inspired by the print over your bed and the bed itself to put up an Eiffel Tower mural as your headboard. It's dangerous territory now, as from there you could easily get over-the-top theme-y, and we don't want that. So overt references to Paris would stop there -- no poodles, no signs that say "Paris." Think more Paris flea market. I really like your curtains -- I do wish they went to the floor. If you sew, I'd suggest lengthening them. The coral bedding and lamp colors come from your fashion sketch, which I've framed and hung over your dresser -- painted black with glass knobs. Bigger side tables if you can -- or snug those you have up to the bed a bit and perhaps paint them silver. And these bedside lamps are a little more substantial and you can find them at Target.

Hi Louise, In a room like this I always like to keep the walls and ceilings ( including the small door and frame 1 colour...in this case a lavender. I'd start by finding colour chips that have the same colour as the carpet, and then go a few shades lighter but in the same tome. All baseboards and door to hall should be the same colour as the iron beds...off white. With the walls a colour you'll be able to see the pretty pattern of the frame. OR find a small scaled pattern of any of the shades of purple and the cream same as the bed frame) with the same fabric. Make custom bedding to match. In a small room 1 pattern works well everywhere. If you go the paint route, try to find fabric with soft gold, lavender, purple for a skirted table between the beds if there's room. You can put it on a cardboard table and base...found in some fabric or craft stores. Top it with a thin piece of glass ( Pier 1) and away you go.Don't be afraid of colour or small pattern in a small space, as you are going for the impact. Have fun! Shaila

I had wardrobes in wood finish They looked so dark So I could not cope with BLACK.! I would sand and paint the wardrobe white and the walls. The bed you could make pull down covers for top and end . (Make them like an open bag so you can wash them .But a devan bed would give open space look).. materal of the same colour as the curtains. Padding them or just covering. Make the spread the same colour. For day time. That should lift the darkness from the room. You can have a blackout blind for night if you want to keep the colours light. My room looked a treet much brighter. and I sleep better now. .OliveH

Cannot see any pictures, but I use acoustic tape for top of joists, Remove dust, dirt etc from joists and just tape on Easy I use 18mm subfloor, exterior grade ply, with spacing between boards of 2mm, to allow for shrinkage and expansion, mastic joints Screw down with floor Tite screws, job done Also recommend 100mm stonewool slabs between joists for ceilings, and stud walls You could also fit a suitable flooring, cork floor or similar, deep pile carpet is also excellent Note , sizing and spacing of joists critical
