i agree with most suggestions above. but dont remove your current rug because u can actually layer a faux fur rug over it. plus your rug has amazing rustic colours and u can use them as accents. maybe over time you may invest in new pillowcases/quilt covers complementing the colours of the rug..peach/mint/cream/ to name a few. may also add some mettalic cushions combo. you can always take them off if you want that summery feel in which switch to sweet pastels. a lot of pillows are important! lol! i'd get rid of the plant. the dressing table n side tables could be black (lacquer may be interesting)with gold knobs (think art deco). dressing table should be move to the side so you get more light and space near the window. maybe mirror can be placed against the window so ull also get natural light when you're admiring your reflection. ur room has an eclectic feel to it.. its great just needs some rearrangments thats all.

Some great advice there! I guess I'm trying to create a comfortable elegant feel/mood to the room. It is a child-free house, so I don't have to worry about little hands marking the fabric, but I do take the point on board - will consider darker fabrics. I do like the eames style chairs, and I will look into them in more detail, although I think I prefer the idea of a soft seat, rather than a hard one. One of my main concerns was in relation to the style/finish of the chair legs.....I love the legs on the table, so I want a chair that will complement the table. Is there any particular style of chair leg I should avoid? Or finish (wooden leg v chrome leg)? Karen: I'd be interested to see which chair you went for! Lovely space, I imagine at this stage you have got sorted with the table and chairs... what did you choose. My flooring looks like yours a bit... ceramic tile made to look like wood... I'm thinking of a wooden table and chairs for mine... currently dark grey but I think ash or light oak would warm the space nicely

Hello, you made a lovely job painting your kitchen, if you have an old table and chairs, what about painting those? do the legs of the table & chairs white & the tops grey. Or alternatively just do the table and get new chairs if the budget stretches? there are very reasonable chair covers too on www.wish.com that cover old chairs and come in lots of funky bright colours that would be perfect too.
