Positioning of furniture in living room, what do you think?

Hi, we're trying to figure where the furniture should go in this living room. We would like to place a three seater, two seater and the television as a starting point. There is no fireplace or other focal point in the room. You also have to walk through this room to get to the kitchen so the furniture cannot block this route.

There is a deep alcove on the left of the room where we would like to put a small work station with shelves on the wall above the desktop.

Would you hang the television on the long wall or put it in the corner opposite the workstation alcove? We could put a three seater under the window but where to place a two seater is a problem. We need more seating than one couch can supply.

If you want custom cream panelling built from scratch, it is likely to take you more than three weeks to line up a contractor, get it built and then painted. If you want to use beadboard (thin, lightweight, cheap) you can do it yourself if you are good at the small precision cuts around the wood window trim and behind the radiators. You can get a custom built wood cover with doors for your tv or use the painting over tv disguise made with hinges. I think the room is beautiful as it is. Spend some money on a truly beautiful, impressive chandelier, have it centered over the table. If you want to impress relatives at an event, the chandelier is the way to go. Clean the windows for extra sparkle. If you are in the US, try Home Decorators http://www.homedecorators.com for DVD storage cabinets that are closed. I would not get a rug for this room unless I was ready to get it cleaned frequently and I could find one that looked good with dog hair on it and did not show stains. A good quality, highly patterned wool Oriental rug will do that job nicely. Such a rug is an investment and may take longer than three weeks to find.

hey everyone, So i'm sooo undecided on how to bring our living room together. We painted the chimney breast choc brown and the fire place cream which I like the look of. We have and a brown and flecked cream carpet and duck egg/ brown/ cream /gold striped curtains. The couches are yellowy cream colour but we may be changing them to cream and getting an L shaped couch. The bookcase came with the place so we probably move that out and the sideboard is going in the kitchen where there is a glass cabinet at the moment ( ill also attach photo of the kitchen) and will be getting a different one for the space. The TV stand is a warm oak and the nest of tables are beech. I can't decide on whether to get an oak and cream painted coffee table like this One http://www.greatfurnituretradingco.c...m-coffee-table .I saw it in a shop in dublin but they don't have it online to link it to. Or else a light oak one see image attached. I like the matching sideboard to the light oak coffee table but was unsure if I got both it'd be too matched. Our living room is north facing so a cold room so would want furniture to warm it up. Would get a rug aswell for under the coffee table. Was thinking of putting floating cream shelves above the sideboard and then a nice picture above the couch at the back of the room. I've attached photos of my living room and the furniture. Help! how should I arrange my living room furniture?

I'd love some advice on how to arrange my living room furniture, starting with a completely blank canvas. The room will be used as a child-free retreat, mainly in the evenings for reading, watching movies and some entertaining. The window faces south east so it is bright during the day and looks over the front garden. We will probably get built ins around the fireplace to store books. I am thinking about getting a corner sofa oriented towards the tv on the right side of the fireplace but I am worried then that the wall opposite the window will just be blank. I'd like to put a chair there too but when you are entering the room I think it will appear to stick out a lot. What could I put on that wall? Could I orient the room the opposite way by putting the tv on the left of the fireplace or would that feel strange entering the room between couches? Would it be better if the door opened the opposite way? What size should the sofa be, given the room is 4.1x4.2m? I have attached a diagram of the room layout and what I am thinking currently. I think lovely opportunity to move couch onto wall opposite armchairs move all seating in away from walls (would probably change in time type seating as too large for room ) allowing circulation with coffee table in the middle. This then opens up wall that couch on now for a unit with open shelving housing the TV there as some gorgeous examples of these & can add colour . Lovely bright room smaller furniture for sure .
