main ceiling lights for traditional dining room and kitchen
Comments (1)Since you want a traditional look, that light in the dining room just will not do. How tall is the room? If it's sufficiently tall (it looks that way), you could look into a chandelier to replace the pendant in there now! Our guide to light sizing will let you know about hanging heights so you don't hit your head on the fixture: http://bit.ly/1cuh1Fj You'll find our selection of traditional chandeliers here and you can sort by size, finish, number of lights, etc.: http://bit.ly/1wkkGkU Do you need a light to go over the central island in the kitchen? I figure yes. You could go for a chandelier in this instance too, but you could also choose a larger ceiling pendant: http://bit.ly/ZDeGJ5 If you have any preferences for finish, number of lights, etc. and would like me to find you specific products, let me know!...See MoreOld pine floors
Comments (15)We are in the process of filling our gaps with pine slithers (they cam in different widths) You can buy them online. You do suffer from bald/ red knees when you hammer them in and then need to chisel them down so they are flush with the rest of the floor but it really does help. What you can also order with the pine slithers is pine saw dust with resin - you mix the two up and can fill the really narrow gaps which the slithers don't fit into. If you don't mind spending the time doing this I would recommend it yourself (especially if you're worried about costs), depending how big the surface is, and then have someone in to do the sanding. The varnishing you can also do you yourself with a normal paint roller. We also recently had a quote for sanding and varnishing and I think it came to £500 for mid size living room and 3 m length hall....See MoreHelp me choose a bed for guest room
Comments (30)Melissa, when I said footboard, I meant this. It has a portion of the bed that extends beyond the mattress edge. You posted a bed that had something at the foot section of the bed. By platform, I mean a bed that has a hard area and only a mattress on it. Like this. It does not extend beyond the edge of the mattress, but does not have a box spring. It is also lower to the ground. The picture you posted was a high profile bed and box spring. It was not on a typical bed frame. A standard bed frame, used with box spring and mattress looks like this. Virtually invisible and does not extend out beyond the mattress/box spring set. That being said, I'd recommend you get a headboard that is not too big for your space. Neither in height or depth (distance from the wall). I would also not get a mattress frame that extends beyond the size of the mattress. Sorry to have not been clear before....See MoreKitchen Cabinet height towards ceiling
Comments (5)Why not simply fill the gap. A simply straight board like the kickboard at the base or bottom point where the cabinets meet the floor can be inserted. This can even be enhanced by using a cornice type finish and if you wish add a bit of colour to complement your kitchen . You would also choose to change colour of kickboard/plinth at the floor to keep a nice overall appearance. CJL...See MoreAndrea Hollis
