Fixing open timber cladding fins

James
Hi, I'm looking to replicate the attached image of timber fins. But it's not clear how the face timber is joined to the black battens behind.

I cannot see any screws or nails through the front of the timber.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks

Your picture is of a rainscreen cladding system, the black timbers are most likely a steel. Try russwood for more technical information.

The vertical timbers are fixed back with a system of angle brackets that are fixed to the side of the timbers so at a glance the bracket fixings won't be obvious. Rainscreen cladding is fixed in a similar way with specialised brackets. Happy fixing!

Thanks all, I do need to speak with russwood. Their site is very informative.

It has been suggested we go for a cedar 19x38mm and that a small nail fixing will be fine. At 19mm deep, I don't think angle joint would work.

The other question is whether to go for a black membrane or a more neutral colour letting the battens and cladding weather. The rest of the house is white render

James, russwood have a technician that will talk you through the whole process, they deal with the stuff every day so will be knowledgeable. Also, it's something you should look into more so that your able to make an informed decision that you won't regret. Where do you live? I said russwood because I knew they have a great webpage.

It will depend on the timber you pick as to how it will weather and change colour, you can also get it stained/ dyed.

Few things to think of so don't rush it and you will be happy with the finished look.

Also, the timber size seams really small.

Hi James, how did your project go?

    Any pictures?

I'm just about to do something similar but using 44 x 44 Siberian Larch battens, I'm finding very hard to find any technical or detail information, I can only find standard cladding information and nothing about open joints.
