Faux wood v wooden blinds

Hi I am currently looking to get blinds fitted Venetian in my house - two sales reps have come out and both different but quite convincing views on faux wood v wooden blinds :

wooden - more expensive looking less cords but may warp in sunlight

faux wood - no warping and more durable against sun ( house is south facing ) yet quite plastic look and feel

would appreciate any views as very confused

We currently stock both and there are a couple of things to consider when purchasing.To brake the above down:

wooden - more expensive looking less cords but may warp in sunlight

Wood may warp but this depends on two main factors, the type of wood used and the humidity in the room. Wood Venetians are mainly manufactured from Bass Wood or Sheerwood. We have been supplying bass and sheer for nearly 10 years now and have yet to have a complaint. There is a cheaper alternative which is raman wood and in my opinion, it is cheaper for a reason, one being it tends to warp quite easily.I don't understand why there are less cords though! Wood will also discolor over time.

With the faux, it is slowly overtaking wood in terms of sales. This is because alot of homes can suffer from either moisture build up around the windows or high temperatures. Again, depending on the manufacturer, some of them do look quite plastic. Shop around and see what you prefer, but price wise, they should be around the same money.

Hi Dave

many thanks for your very informative message . I was going for the wood ones as I felt the faux were too plastic looking and the wood definitely looked more expensive .

the blinds are going on the house as it is very near a foot path so it's more for privacy than anything else - would prefer not to have them as the house is south facing so want to get as much light as possible in but this seems the best option - am I correct ?

I am based on Dublin so would have popped into your cork store if I was down there

I would also definitely go white if the windows are on the green wall. Will be much more natural to tie the accent wall with the stark wht contrasting walls. Always a very chic contemporary look. Also very relaxing as opposed to the treatments standing out when you already have your standout feature- the green accent wall. Great white bed you ordered! Then I love all the blue/green/ silver accent advice. I did a similar room in purples/greys/ whites and we used great posted prints of florals with a little oriental flair in nice big mats w frames. You could do florals or nice big botanicals in greens would be very fresh and modern!! White or silver frames or maybe even the shock of black would be cool.

Window shopping and lots of online browsing.! .haven't purchased anything yet!. Just getting house back in order after painting! I have put back the red/winey curtains that I previously had up...convinces me more to go with a neutral colour. The walls are rich Taupe but with a slight grey hue off them so I think the bottom left above actually might work. I have bedding very similar so I took them out and held up and think it would look very nice. Purple isn't a theme in my house (although I do have one bedroom painted purple/lilac) My sitting room is white red black and silver and living/kitchen room is tan and red. I want a rug that wont show up the dirt that much...I live in the country side and have lots of dirty feet coming in so I cant go for any rug that is too light in colour

Hello CG, you can buy some of these and try them on site. From the pictures you posted I get the feeling you have 2 colors with similar saturation both fighting for attention. It's a little too much. I would keep the green but go softer on the red (i.e rust). You can also let yourself be inspired by the grey/silver/bordeaux floral and stripe pillows to create a brand new color scheme using these colors instead. For example, a very soft gray on the walls, gray carpet, grey/bordeaux combo in the curtains and for the sofa accents, pillows similar to these 2. It's decision time. Go for what speaks to you, but do it with elegance :-)

Thanks Decoenthusiaste! Yes that sofa is unavailable here and hard to find anything similar in local stores, but I may have one made up! So yes I’m using the images you post as inspiration and hope to find similar items here, I also love the grey Scandanavian sofa ideas you had earlier, and will use them as inspiration to get a lighter replacement. The blind on my window is screwed in place, but I could easily replace it with something that would let in more light, like the top down blinds (which are new to me!). I’m really glad no one has thought the absence of curtains an issue, as light is scarce here & I prefer the no curtains look. I do agree we should move the car to another part of our drive to get a nicer view out. A radiator cover that could double as a shelf would work well I think, I love the bespoke one, how cool! Also good to find out that you can get ones that allow the heat to rise. Re the music centre, I might replace with an iPod doc with speakers as Glo kindly suggested, In meantime I might cover it (and the dreaded TV!) with a piece of framed art leaning from the floor, aware that’ll be another competing focal point, but hopefully a nicer one! Thanks a lot for the tip re dimensions for a piece of art over the sofa and a coffee table, both of which are on my list to get, I would’ve had no clue re this and it’s fantastic to discover that there are certain rules which, if you apply them, can make your room work visually! Thanks again for the brilliant advice, I really appreciate it.

Hi Neerb

Sorry I never got the opportunity to reply.

It is hard to strike a compromise between privacy and light as it is strictly speaking one or the other. To maximize the light, I would be recommending 50mm wood Venetians as they will allow in alot of light but can be tilted in such a way as to give you privacy.

We also have a rep based in Dublin!!
