Help with a new carpet for my bedroom please?

Hi,

Has anyone any suggestions on what carpet would work best in this room? The current carpet is there about 8 years, is covered in GHD burn marks and false tan spills amongst other stuff. I am adamant that I want a carpet that I don't have to hoover very often, wont show any foot marks when I walk on it and wont show up the dirt too much! Is that a tall order??

The carpet I have does all that and drives me mad, I hoover it every second day. I do like the colour of it even though it is a bit light but it suits the room. We will probably change the wallpaper and bedding in about 2 years.

I know from experience that a solid coloured carpet in a bedroom where makeup and such is used can be hard to keep..maybe consider something with a small pattern in it.. An 80/20 mix Is good..also ask in the carpet showrooms for their opinion also.

i agree with most suggestions above. but dont remove your current rug because u can actually layer a faux fur rug over it. plus your rug has amazing rustic colours and u can use them as accents. maybe over time you may invest in new pillowcases/quilt covers complementing the colours of the rug..peach/mint/cream/ to name a few. may also add some mettalic cushions combo. you can always take them off if you want that summery feel in which switch to sweet pastels. a lot of pillows are important! lol! i'd get rid of the plant. the dressing table n side tables could be black (lacquer may be interesting)with gold knobs (think art deco). dressing table should be move to the side so you get more light and space near the window. maybe mirror can be placed against the window so ull also get natural light when you're admiring your reflection. ur room has an eclectic feel to it.. its great just needs some rearrangments thats all.

I would also definitely go white if the windows are on the green wall. Will be much more natural to tie the accent wall with the stark wht contrasting walls. Always a very chic contemporary look. Also very relaxing as opposed to the treatments standing out when you already have your standout feature- the green accent wall. Great white bed you ordered! Then I love all the blue/green/ silver accent advice. I did a similar room in purples/greys/ whites and we used great posted prints of florals with a little oriental flair in nice big mats w frames. You could do florals or nice big botanicals in greens would be very fresh and modern!! White or silver frames or maybe even the shock of black would be cool.

I love sisal/ sea-grass type carpets but I realise they're not everyone's cup of tea underfoot in a bedroom. I wouldn't go for a coloured pattern personally if you are keeping the wallpaper as the room might end up looking a bit too busy visually then. But you could go with a textured weave perhaps.

If you really don't like vacuuming though, I would consider a wooden floor with nice rugs instead. You can be bolder with rugs as they are more easily changed.

Sorry, just noticed you said you might change the wallpaper in a couple of years. Perhaps you could go with a patterned carpet then or a stripe maybe.

I have a very flecked grey / white / black carpet in my bedroom and love it so much I went for the same carpet in a brown mix for my stairs! why do I love it - it looks good, but also doesn't mind foundation / hair tufts / random detritus of life on a floor that's hovered once every 2 weeks. Bizarrely, despite being my absolute favourite in the shop it was VERY reasonably priced - I'm told it's often used for rentals and it is sort of tufted like a sisal.

Thank you guys.

I went to the carpet showroom today and the guy there was not very helpful. Just threw a few books at me. So I am none the wiser really.

But there would not be as much selection here in Ireland as what you would have in the states.

I won't give up though, I saw a few ones with speckles on it and they were nice but I think I will hold out for the pattern ones if I see them. Maybe what I want is not out there..... Wont see any dirt, only have to Hoover once a week, no foot marks and light in color ??

Fragleo,I have just ordered a carpet for a room my daughter comes and stays in now and again..she will be getting married next May so will be using that room for make up etc..I am told that this is a very good wearing carpet..its called Durham twist and the colour is Yorkshire stone. The colour may not be what your looking for but they do have more colours in the range..Btw if your in southern Ireland I got mine 150.00 euro cheaper in Northern Ireland.

I've seen some beautiful stripes recently. They wouldn't work in every room but looks like you have a great light source and a preferred orientation of bed to face the cupboard. Could look amazing and would not show marks as much as plain.
