Faux flowers or plants use in interior design yay or nay?

Has the quality and likeness of artificial flowers and plants improved enough to be acceptable in the home?

We always prefer real plants and flowers to silk ones (cleaner air among many other benefits) but there are some very high quality artificial plants on the market nowadays!

Yes, I agree with Urban Plant Life-Real plants are beautiful, add a homely touch and smell lovely! However the right faux plant in the right situation can work, as long as they are of a good quality. Faux Orchids are effective if you get the right ones as they can look so real.

Thanks for the feedback, we had something similar in mind. Would you suggest bringing the door out to the front? What about the windows either side, we would think about replacing maybe in a different colour, possibly grey, and add some cedar cladding to the house front and paint walls grey. We are also toying with the idea of bring double doors out to the front with arclight over head and then to add coving around the windows with arc that mirrors the arc light to try and soften the whole angular look to to the front. All suggestions welcome. Thanks Brian

hello bonnielynn75 and THANK YOU! your comment put a smile on my face re the red on the interior side of the door. It IS red on the inside as well, he insisted on that when we purchased it. no one here has it red on the inside and I wanted it to be white on the inside. do you see my dilemma?;) I agree with everything you are saying, I suppose this is the reason why so far I was not 100% sure about the black for the door either, although I like black...Agree, there is too much wall and I find the house to be looking a bit 'bland' and would like to change that. I LOVE shutters, but read somewhere that you never put shutters on wide windows, so got unsure about that, too...but perhaps just the one as I stated earlier. Would the color on that shutter be the same as the door (if I ever settle on a door color)? Unfortunately window boxes are not an option as we have quite a few cats and they may be used as litter boxes;) please don't tell me to get rid of the cats;)... Regarding the stoop (entrance) : we need to add another step (made of cement) on top of the existing step: it was removed when the new door was fitted. We were thinking of putting slate tiles or something dark to match the roof, if that makes any sense.... It is porous cement so unsuitable for painting, I think. What place in Ireland did you visit, we are close to the Irish Sea in the country surrounded by sheep;)...

Hello CG, you can buy some of these and try them on site. From the pictures you posted I get the feeling you have 2 colors with similar saturation both fighting for attention. It's a little too much. I would keep the green but go softer on the red (i.e rust). You can also let yourself be inspired by the grey/silver/bordeaux floral and stripe pillows to create a brand new color scheme using these colors instead. For example, a very soft gray on the walls, gray carpet, grey/bordeaux combo in the curtains and for the sofa accents, pillows similar to these 2. It's decision time. Go for what speaks to you, but do it with elegance :-)

Hi there, If you are looking to create an opulent feel then we recommend looking at Traditional Interiors and taking points from these and applying these to your contemporary living space. Faux flowers have improved so much over the years that they are definitely worth using - they are quite expensive but worth the investment if they are really good

There are some fantastic selections around now which extend to plants too! Here's something I put together using faux flowers, I tied a ribbon round for effect but it's my arrangement-

I offer floral arrangements for clients if they want it. And faux they are gr8 for people who have less time or for those who suffer from allergies as I do.. : ))

It depends, if it was to be a centre piece on the table, I would only use real flowers. However faux flowers would work well for some dead space to brighten up the area.

Faux flowers which are available these days have improved so much and can be incredibly realistic. I provide floral displays for clients, both real and artificial. Flowers provide that finishing touch to a room - the beauty of faux is you are able to have an eye catching beautiful arrangement that lasts far longer than fresh, though I love real flowers too of course.
