7 years agoI would consider keeping the rug neutral and then accent the space with more dramatic accessories. The African, kuba cloth style in this pic goes well with both the tan, brown, grey colours you have.

Just wanted to suggest that you try pulling the nesting tables forward to be more in line with front of the chairs & placing your floor lamp to the back of them. This will elevate the mood of the room since you will need an upper emphasis once your room is anchored with the carpet. It is easier to decorate around a rug, the one you love for sure, than around a focal piece, such as art. After you choose from any of the beautiful carpets above that work with your interior, take a photo of the room with the carpet installed in it. Have fun looking for the artwork that best sings with your carpet. and that grabs you. After you have the choice of art up on the wall, look for small accessories of colour of shape, size and texture that work with the whole composition last. Comments (81)Hi Lisa, nice sofa. I had a red sofa for 10 years and loved it ( though mine was fabric) I've changed the kitchen/ living room and it stuck out like a sore thumb. I gave in and put in a grey leather sectional one and I must say it's much easier to decorate around. Are you in Ireland? Have you heard of the 1933 company, they have very nice suites. Comments (11)Agree with alant1000 about starting from scratch, but not sure about white. They are some lovely either light grey, light green, or light caramel, which will keep the room warm feeling, and less stark. The wallpaper feature wall you presently have is far too dark for the room - if you want wallpaper, there are some lovely sparkle designs, or stick to paint and do a slightly darker colour than the chosen wall colour. Have you thought about painting the doors white? The dark curtains do not help either. Do you need curtains and vertical blinds? If you lost the curtains, the window would look neater and lighter. 7 years agoElainesteinke-I love the first rug you posted, and also the last inspiration photo. I am trying for a clean, light look and I always lean towards "beach-y" accessories. I am nervous about how my sand colored sofa would look on a solid grey rug? Would a large striped rug look okay?

7 years agolast modified: 7 years agoI would recommend a large rug that has a bit of sand and coffee in it to tie the furniture together. A refined pattern would be nice ... take a look at Restoration Hardware's Gala rug in white/natural. With the color of the couches spreading across the floor, the wood tones that flank the seating area will pull together, making the room feel more cohesive. The Gala rug in white/natural will also work well with your curtains and, from what I can tell from your pictures, it will look great with your wall color (request a sample). I'd also hang the painting on the wall and put some alabaster accessories on the mantle, clearing the bottom of the painting. When I say large rug, I mean large! Have it extend a couple inches beyond the back of the couch, and 2-3" from the hearth.
