Kitchen splashback - how many lines of tile

Have had his kitchen made. The tile has been chosen for the splashback. We were not sure how many lines of tile to use. 1 line is too small I think? Only issue is that 2 lines sees the tile coming up just over the floating shelf line which I think will look odd and Kill the effect of the floating shelf.
Option 1 is the tiler cuts the tile to come just under it, so the splashback stops where the shelf starts. Option 2 is tile the whole wall but I think the shelf looks better against a plain painted background and that will expensive and be too much on the eye.
So re: option 1: should he cut it to just meet where the shelf starts or do you think it should be cut to stop a couple of cm before the shelf starts? How high up should I go? I really don't want to interfere with the effect of the floating tile.

Comments (8)The builder ought to be ashamed for not cleaning up each night...that is part of what my contractors do...every night. As far as flooring...since the cabinets are on the darker side...use a contrasting flooring in travertine stone. use the largest pieces you can get...usually 18" are good but if you can get 24" that's even better! Put them on the diamond. as far as backsplash use travertine again and bring in the same color as the flooring. Comments (10)Hi, I think Elephant's Breath would be stunning. I used it before on a project in a open plan living and kitchen area in similar room position and it looks great. If you use the Elephant's Breath I would keep the cabinets one colour. The actual colour looks different at certain times of the day or under natural and artificial lighting. Sometimes it is more soft grey and dark and other times it's quite bright and light. I wouldn't go any darker than that. The tone is more in warm so no blue or cool grey. I would suggest that you mix the cabinet units with calacatta marble worktop and splashback which is a white marble. Or you can go the opposite way and use black marble like nero marquinia or dark granite. Natural wood would also look great. If you want another colour option I would also consider Old White No4. Comments (5)Hi. The kitchen looks lovely. As the windows are lower than the units I would avoid tiling or a splashback all the way round the kitchen. Maybe just either go for a decorative tiled splashback behind the hob or use a glass splashback. Keep it simple with clear/light coloured glass or look at other decorative ideas with wallpaper, art etc. Alternatively just tile that oven ŵall about a foot high, handmade metro tiles in a pale olive would look nice. I noticed you like copper so I don't know if this is an idea? - 10 years agoWould you go with light grey (it's Vintage Silver) or the darker grey tone (Grey Wolf) behind the shelves? Wanted to pick out one of the colours from the splash back but not sure which way to go.....
