What colour to spray iron Stairs

Hi, we have a black wrought iron staircase in our double height hall, magnolia walls with black tiles. I was going to get it sprayed black just to tidy it up. The man who came to look at the job, said that it was way too imposing all black, and that I should change up the colours! I was completely taken aback and cannot visualise this at all and I am afraid that I will ruin the stairs! My questions are, has anyone got a steel two tone stairs? Or what colour should I spray it? Any help/advise would be greatly appreciated.

Note, the lights are still there from Christmas!!
