i have recently bought a new purple couch for my sitting room. The furniture is black, wooden floors, off white walls, I have ordered new curtains which are grape in colour. I would like advice on whether to get wallpaper on one wall and if so what colour? The door handles etc are gold,

Gold works well with purple so maybe a gold pattern on an off white background? Or a grey and white paper would look good. You could then introduce a little yellow or green as an accent colour for cushions etc if wanted (mixed with some of the grey and white). It's hard to say without seeing the room re which ŵall to paper but it sounds as if introducing some pattern would work. Alternatively just add a textured wallpaper and add pattern in cushions, rug etc

I agree - paint or paper the chimney breast in that burgundy/red shade of the fire surround tiling. Your curtains are lovely - methinks I'd be choosing a throw to match for the sofa + chairs, and I see you already have red cushions to accessorise.

Will the radiator be an issue if you want to put TV to left of fireplace? Though it is a more prominent position, you could put the TV over to the right of the fireplace. Back to the window is better as regards glare on the screen if you are watching it during the day time. I would put your sofa in the middle of the room facing the fireplace. then I would put an armchair with its back to the window pointing in towards the sofa. This can be pulled sort of in front of the TV/ forward from the TV which will push the TV into the background and demonstrate that it is not your dominant feature. When you do want to watch TV you can push the armchair over a bit so you can see the TV from the sofa. Alternatively, put the TV with its back to the wall around where the mirror is leaning in your picture. And use houseology's great TV unit on castors idea whichever side you choose! Simple yet genius as you can push the TV right into the corner out of the way when not using - might use that one myself.

We recently put on an extension to our kitchen and although I'm not so much having trouble picking colours for the walls there, I do however find it difficult to match up the dining and living all of which are open plan .. the sofas in the living area are removable covers, one set taupe and the other set white, no problem there but my curtins were expensive and I'm reluctant to change them at the moment so really want something to tie everything together ..they are autumnal in colour ...I'd appreciate some advice on paint colours for the walls they dont have to be the same but would have to tone well together ..Thank you

Hi.

Have you ever considered a real interesting eye catching piece of art work to really brighten up an area I think a select piece of art would really make the space stand out, add interest, colour, texture and add a great talking point to the room....

Please check out my website if like the idea and please get in contact, commission work is also welcomed so if you like a particular style I can do in a select colour palette and size but with this it can only be done as a original piece and not a print.....but all prints I can do to the same size or smaller than my original paintings, so lots of options.
