Need Advice for this Empty Space
So I "thought" we had a door for this linen, but looking at our blueprint I was wrong. We do have two other linen closets so I don't mind making this space something else. We just aren't sure of what to put here and I tried to google some photos but not really seeing what I like since this space is angled.
Half cabinet with shelves on top? All shelves? Leave it and put a mirror? or a coat rack? book shelves?
Also, as you can see, there is an air duct vent so we can't really do a wall halfway up, we still need 2-3ft to change out the air filter.
Does anyone have any ideas or photos of what they did with a small angled space like this?
*The space is 9' tall x 2'6" depth x 2' wide

Comments (17)I understand what you want to do, so here's my suggestion, if it fits.....I'd move the couch under the mirror. Move table to the center of the kitchen, like an island. Sounds like it's two adults and two toddlers, so I'd definitely remove two of those chairs. Are your kids in high-chairs, if so move the other two chairs out too. Basically you want four chairs not six. Move them to a garage, basement or another room. Put the chairs around two or three sides of the table. I'd leave the side near the stove and washing machine(?) open. TV would mount to the right of the back door. See if that would work. Either way, it's going to be a tight space. The area that we are looking in has a very limited number of options currently on offer. There is one house available that looks in need of complete renovation/modernisation (it has been on the market for a number of years, has not been lived in full time for over a decade & looking at pictures seems like it would need a completely new heating system - looks to be all storage heaters at the moment). However, there is a good amount of garden space with it, which is really appealing and it could have great potential - because it has been on the market for so long, maybe we could haggle with the price? Every time I watch a home renovation show, it seems that there are so many hidden costs and ends up costing over what was originally budgeted! Would love to hear from someone who has recently undertaken a similar project - it is a 2 storey and would possibly need a kitchen extension or some changes to the floor plan for a more open living space downstairs. What were the costs like? How long did the project take? Did you manage to stay within your budget? Is it worth renovating over trying to do a self build? There are some sites for sale in the area too, but would be apprehensive about not being able to get planning permission on a site - would it be silly to purchase a site without planning? Having more control over the project/fewer surprise costs would be really appealing, but obviously don't want to be left with a site if we aren't granted planning. Wish you had the option to add a light above, but not possible with air duct vent. What if you painted the niche in a bold accent colour, then put artwork in there as a display area. Here is a picture of something similar :)

Well, you may not be able to have lighting above the shelves, but you can have lights under (not if they are glass obv.) or behind the shelves. I think it will be a lovely focal point from the gallery.
