ceiling color and paint type.

Hi, I am planning to paint my old timber ceiling white. I wasn't sure if I should paint it matte or low sheen or semi gloss. Usually ceilings are matte if it is plasterboard but I am not sure what to use for timber. Could you advice on what paint you used and also what colour white. Kind regards

Hi. Any woodwork should have some kind of sheen - it's a personal preference but I would suggest low sheen. White color here was either Dunn Edwards Whisper White, or Benjamin Moore White Dove. Best

Hi Kim, thanks for the reply. Might be a silly question but should I use low sheen wall paint or semi gloss/ low sheen timber/woodwork paint? Kind regards.

Because you already have your various cream/white elements in the room, it's important that you select and test colours within your space, to see what blends perfectly. Are you looking for a neutral scheme?

i'd do charcoal or lighter grey with charcoal in it., ideally hung to the ceiling and touching the floor. measure floor to ceiling, buy the length that covers the most space, put the rods at that height.

Hi Zoe, I think I would have to agree with your sister! The right grey will look warm, whilst giving the room a fresh, clean feel. Farrow&Ball do some lovely ones, have a look at Elephant's Breath or Pavilion Grey. This colour scheme with wooden floors (natural or painted) would look wonderful. Injections of colour could then be added with soft furnishings. Hope this helps!

Hi Maria. It's a lovely kitchen and I must admit I like the white so would probably change the accessories. I would add a huge sunburst clock or mirror above the cabinets (can't work out if it's a clock or mirror above the fire). Add a statement light over the table. Try a coloured splashback behind the cabinets. Add some coloured stools. I would say paint the kitchen chairs but I can see they are good quality! If you do want to paint then either blues, violets or even a very soft grey if you add some coloured accesories. Do make sure the colour blends with the lounge though as you can obviously see through.

any paint store should help you with the quality/type of paint to put on wood. i prefer the low sheen over semi gloss, esp for the ceilings
