Interconnecting rooms and paint colours

OK, so we haven't moved into our Victorian terrace yet but I'm already decorating it in my head (because I'm so excited). I'm just wondering though, what it the best idea for interconnecting rooms and wall colours. In my current house, our sitting and dining rooms are not interconnected and both have different feels. I like this as we get to express something a bit different (but hopefully still harmonious) with both rooms. Also, there's the light - one will be south facing and very bright (bay window) and the other will be north-facing. The double doors will be open when we entertain most likely but I'm not sure that I want the rooms to be exact twins. I know that can look nice but I have a vision of a deep velvety blue/ navy chimney breast in the dining room with white walls, ceilings and mouldings/ paintwork elsewhere for the dining room but for the front room with the bright bay I'd like something a bit softer and more relaxed like a misty, yellowy/ greenish grey that will look soft and warm in the sun. Do you think this would be a design no-no?

Hi, I love Victorian houses especially ones with original features. Is there also a fireplace in the lounge? I don't necessarily think you need exactly the same on both rooms. I this if the flooring is the same then you can create two different moods. Like you say if one get more light and has a large bay window then you will automatically get a very different feel. I would say that out of the colours you mentioned I would be more inclined to go with the grey tones in the front room. These would tie in tonally with the navy in the dining room. I would also follow the same theme with woodwork and mouldings etc. Perhaps you could be brave and introduce a bright accent colour in the front room like a lovely bright yellow/mustard colour. This would add the warmth and work with the brighter aspect. You could include it on larger spaces such as a rug, cushions and blinds etc

Thanks! Funny you should mention bright yellow in the front room (yes this also has a fireplace). I had thought that would be nice but wasn't sure if it would be too much of a contrast and also wasn't 100% sure how well it would work with my existing furniture.

Choosing Living Room Paint Colours

I have a large rectangular living room / music room which is two rooms in one. The living room is South West Facing and the Music room is North East facing. I am thinking of painting the walls White Tie by Farrow and Ball and the skirtings and door frame Matchstick. One problem is the window frame and sills are white UPVC. The ceilings are 8ft high so have opted for a pure, brilliant white ceiling. The dado rail is going and all the furnishings will be neutral with black piano and fireplace. The other alternative that works really well with grey is orange! Depends how brave you are!! I love orange and it would also tie in well with the navy on the dining room. You could introduce in in there as well?
