Comments (3)I would grow one or two evergreens in pots so you have some winter interest and then, depending on how sunny your balcony is in summer, try some herbs as previously suggested and also tubs of edibles such as tomatoes and strawberries. Depends how much time you have to look after the plants. Comments (0)This garden was challenging, a steep sloping site and harsh coastal winds. We decided to level out the ground from the house, to allow for a patio and lawn. The steep slope to the ocean was planted with hardy ground cover plants e.g Cotoneaster. We carefully chose more colourful planting to border the lawn, that could also withstand the strong coastal winds e.g. Nepeta, Lavender, Hebe.
