Cream, Teal and ????
We're in the process of doing up our more
formal sitting room, and just had a new fireplace installed. As a result, the wall with it will need to be repainted. As the room is north facing, it doesn't get much natural light, so I want to keep the other walls as the jasmine white they currently are but would like the fireplace wall to be more of a feature.
Any colour suggestions? I like a cappuccino colour, but my partner would like something stronger, even suggesting a deep teal colour, like the cushions/curtains etc. I think this might be a bit much.
Anyone else with more design experience/better eye who would like to weight in on the debate?!

Comments (30)Hello the days are brightening up by now and I'm sure the room is looking less drab for it. However I think furniture rearranging will work wonders. You seem to have nice low window sills: show them off. If the sofa goes to the left between window and built-in unit you'll have a view out to the garden and more light in the room. Equally: can you fit the piano between the radiator and the double doors? Again: more light through the window. Low sills are a god-send, and so many of us are stuck with high ones. The room will feel more spacious with a good view to outdoors. The armchairs then: one to the left of the fireplace and one between the other window and piano. TV then between the two windows. (No shine on the screen) Does that fit maybe? Or do you need all five seats facing the TV? I rather like those stripy cushions. Can you find a striped wallpaper in matching colors and with an irregular pattern repeat for your accent wall? if going with wood floors how about a sheepskin rug for each of your doggies? Black or white. One last detail. A lower table for your side lamps would be good: At sofa arm or seat height. Coffee table could work in corner between window and new sofa position. Btw: I liked the suggestion to replace the cupboard doors above the fish tank with full-height ones. In some kitchen shops you can find ready-painted, wooden, panel doors that might fit. It IS red on the inside as well, he insisted on that when we purchased it. no one here has it red on the inside and I wanted it to be white on the inside. do you see my dilemma?;) I agree with everything you are saying, I suppose this is the reason why so far I was not 100% sure about the black for the door either, although I like black...Agree, there is too much wall and I find the house to be looking a bit 'bland' and would like to change that. I LOVE shutters, but read somewhere that you never put shutters on wide windows, so got unsure about that, too...but perhaps just the one as I stated earlier. Would the color on that shutter be the same as the door (if I ever settle on a door color)? Unfortunately window boxes are not an option as we have quite a few cats and they may be used as litter boxes;) please don't tell me to get rid of the cats;)... Regarding the stoop (entrance) : we need to add another step (made of cement) on top of the existing step: it was removed when the new door was fitted. We were thinking of putting slate tiles or something dark to match the roof, if that makes any sense.... It is porous cement so unsuitable for painting, I think. LOL Sometimes I wish he was like "most"....I'd have more butterflies myself. ;) We got a Rottie girl....we've rescued Great Danes for over 15 years but they just do not live very long....it's too hard....so we switched breeds. 8 years agoI might be tempted to do wallpaper on the bottom of the wall something like one of these might be fun
I would take the mirror down as it is not reflecting anything beautiful and replace with art work and the lamp on the console needs to be much larger and I like the idea of one other color in there and yellow would be great.

I recommend painting the entire room and chair rail one color, as there are too many breaks\divisions in the space already. I think your ceiling should have a bit of emphasis, so painting it a deeper hue than the walls would add some drama, interest, and elevate the overall look. A larger rug is a must for this space, as well as art above the FP. I agree with Mark--- mirrors opposite windows to reflect light.
Wall color: Ben Moore's Annapolis Green
Ceiling: Sherwin William's Taupe Tone or Collanade Gray
Rugs: Joss and Main--- Flora and Farrah rugs
