Exterior Advice Required

Advice on a new paint colour? Maybe white? Arranging a new composite door, trying to make decision on a colour for that also. Thinking black at the moment with frost glass at each side, along the lines of the attached photo.

That is true alright, though even with a patterned carpet they usually keep a mat for people to wipe their feet on by the door, or if people like to remove boots or shoes when entering ( not that common here) but great idea. The trouble with the patterned carpet was if anything fell on the floor you could hardly find it !!

This might sound a bit like being on the fence given the advice you've had already... How about a mid to dark grey ( less contrast than black), RAL 7022 is a favourite of mine (warmer grey), or look at a green grey, as something that will have the colour of the olive, with a good amount of contrast against the white render, (you won't have the warm rich colours of the brickwork as in the photos above (which the olive looks good against)). If you are painting the timber windows you would do well to look at microporous opaque stains to reduce your on-going maintenance. A benefit of aluclad composite windows is colour outside can be factory supplied different to the interior finish. Hope this might help. Regards, Nick

Hi, I think that you could give this house a smart contemporary look with the grey windows that you suggested. I would break each window up into two or three panels though, this would give each panel a more elegant vertical emphasis. A timber front door is always nice though, the image above shows one of our houses with a similar hip-roofed style and grey frames (the windows here are openable too). It is good to match the window frame colour to the gutters and/or eaves fascia & soffit. In this house we had an iroko timber door and eaves which brings a warm high quality feel to the house. Does my bedroom ensuite require a fire door?

I currently have a third floor apartment. Inside my bedroom there is a bathroom ensuite. My bedroom door is a 30 minute Fire Door although I am not sure if the bathroon ensuite within my bedroom is a fire door or is required to be. To improve swing space I was considering removing the ensuite door and replacing with a sliding barn door but would only consider this if the ensuite does not require a fire door. Appreciate any advice.
