Could the space be opened up into an adjacent dining area to create a more open plan solution? There seems to be three doors, are all those required or can either of them be moved/ closed off? Previous question about table is also key!
Looks like a massive declutter would help a lot. Think about lighting too, it looks like a nice bright room, so I'd work on maximising that.
In the kitchen I'd go for the same number of chairs as people and keep the table quite small, especially if you have another room to eat in. Do you have a conservatory off the kitchen? That could make a great breakfast area.
