Need help with kitchen/sitting room open plan

Hi, Would appreciate any help/ideas you would have for the plan I have attached. Hopefully you can make it out. I am really stuck on the actual design of the kitchen, do i put in an island, do I not, where do I put kitchen units etc. I have a room off this kitchen which will be an area for doing all the messy cooking etc., so its just the basics for the area on the plan.

Hi,

One of the possible plans is to block off the window and put tall units with eye level ovens, larder, fridge freezer etc. keep the sink run in a straight line with sink, dishwasher, pull out bin and in the island put in the hob with drawers underneath. Either put in ceiling mounted extractor or a downdraft depending on what stage of build you are at. Hope this helps, we are in Northern Ireland if you but do work throughout the uk. We are the largest Pronorm dealer in the whole of Ireland and a gloss white handless kitchen would look great in this space.

I'd be temped to it an island kitchen in this space - with walk ways either side - and one massive working island in the middle - be a great space to cook / clear / serve and even sit at ! Low level oven, micro and warming drawer, hob above these - ceiling extractors above that - then under counter Fridge and Freezer - sink and dishwasher -

I would ordinarily recommend that you don't mix cream/ivory with white as they can often clash, but you have pulled it off with the worktops! bringing in more white in the form of the glossy table will only enhance the look you have already created. the only other option would be a glass table with white chairs or stick with the accent colour of subtle grey for the chairs.

Thanks for your comments. I think we've decided on wooden flooring throughout the open plan space but it's just what we do in living area. We had wanted carpet to get that warm cosy affect. We are considering under floor heating but I understand that can be expensive. I know we can put a rug down although I'm not sure whether that will have the desired warm and cosy feel. The other option is to fit carpet in a rectangle or circle shape in the living area. Just not sure how that's going to look and how best to join it to the wood so that it looks good. I've not seen open areas with carpet and tiles/wooden flooring...it seems that usually flooring is the same throughout with a rug in the living area. Any suggestions? I attach a plan which shows what it will hopefully look like. The dining table will go near to the patio doors. The sofa will be in an L shape with the back to the kitchen on one side and the other back to the dining area on the other side. Any flooring ideas would be appreciated!

We have open plan and I love it! What lifestyle do you have? Do you entertain? Do you have kids? Do you enjoy hanging out together or do you like to have time alone? You need to think about how you live in the house and what works best for you. Also, are you a traditional type or more modern/contemporary styling?

I'd put another set of sliding doors between the lounge and the playroom rather than a solid wall. Reason being is that it gives you more options. You get to sequester the mess and noise when you want and you still get a good flow later on when the kidlets aren't such mess monsters. I'd make both sets of sliding doors have full-length frosted glass inserts. That will let in the light. Or you could use shoji doors if that suits the decor better. From your plan, I'm assuming the house is semi-detached, so windows on the right wall aren't possible? Also, you might consider a pocket door from the hallway to the lounge and from the hallway to the utility room. That way you don't have to allow space for door swing.
