laminate or engineered flooring

We are planning to change the floor of our 3 bedroom, we just don't know, if should we go for a laminate or engineered flooring? there are quite bit difference in price, any recommendation would be much appreciate, thank you guys!

Hi.
My advice is when budget is a main consideration you are always better off with a very good quality laminate than a budget priced wooden floor. Entry level wooden floors are invariably sub-standard and usually end up looking cheap. The right laminate will look crisp and clean and modern. Bedrooms are also usually heavily furnished so the actual m2 you see in the finished room is often quite small.
Laminates these days are very well made and most good ones carry 25yr + domestic guarantees. I would Reccomend Haro, Quickstep, Elka or Parador these are all good. Don't buy from builders merchants their products are a lesser quality usually.

As laminates have to be floated the sub-floor must be pretty level to get a good result with the install.

Either could be laid- you would need to use different adhesives on the wood or concrete though. There isn't much difference between- I would look for a reputable supplier and not online though as the decent quality may not be there. Any tiles can be laid on a diagonal if your tiler is good enough! Jade

Hi Cherry, we went with the laminate throughout the house and it turned out absolutely stunning. To be honest it's such good quality I don't think of it as laminate and everyone who visits thinks it's solid wood. It won't look like laminate if it's a good quality brand and you use a thick underlay. Using it throughout the house makes the rooms flow and makes the spaces feel bigger. It's also really easy to maintain unlike shiny glossy tiles! Good luck!

The sizes you mentioned for the flooring: 11mm or 8mm are not "widths" of the plank. It is the THICKNESS of the plank. Technically the thicker the laminate the "nicer" the laminate. Small rooms do well with lighter flooring. And please do not use laminate in the kitchen. It won't survive for very long. If you are going to do it, please purchase enough laminate to REMOVE AND REPLACE the kitchen TWICE. That way you can have the same floor throughout the house even if the kitchen is severely damaged....and the potential is VERY high that laminate in a kitchen will NOT survive a rental situation. Remember: in a rental, the life of a floor = 7 years on average. Laminate in a kitchen averages 3 years. That's why you want to buy enough laminate to install the kitchen TWICE....it's the only way you can get it to "live" for the full 7 years. Have fun.

Hi guys, I have a 20yr old solid wood pine floor throughout my house and I want to replace with white oak laminate. The existing floor is in good condition with no obvious issues. My question is what would be the pros and cons of laying the new 10mm laminate directly over it. Also would I still require underlay too? Many thabks
