Is it just the angle the photo was taken, or is hood not centered (too small?) on the wall?

The trim in your rooms is outstanding. To "tie the rooms together", the one thing I would do is install chair rail the same color as the existing trim. The horizontal lines of chair rail will move the eye around the room and into the next room creating a flow. Chair rail is relatively inexpensive, easy to install and would be wonderful compliment to your existing beautiful trim.

Low suspension beam

We are currently in the process of renovating an existing house, plans attached, an extension to the back of the house to extend the kitchen and utility. The suspension beam required is a lot bigger than I originally imagined and it is creating problems for my kitchen design. Its a steel beam and the contractor has it already in place. The beam will run lower than the ceiling in the center of the kitchen. I was planning full height cabinets and one central pendant over the island which I think will now look odd with this beam. Or any ideas or photos on how to incorporate the beam into the kitchen design?
