Help for office/guestroom/craftroom...oh and it's small!

Have a room about 11'x11' which needs to serve as a main office space with two monitors, occasional guestroom and craft room - both sewing and paper projects. Not sure how to set the room up (see photos--it's serving as a junk room!!), have some built in shelving, using the closet space already, and have a queen bed. Happy to get a sleeper sofa and since I work in tech, the room needs to be set up so I can video conference. Thanks in advance houzz family!

Comments (10)If you are going to do this - make sure the bedrooms have plenty of wardrobe space etc - don't scrimp ! Ideally every woman wants at least double the wardrobe space she already has !! And a walk-in wardrobe / dressing room is something that would earn any developer brownie points !! So if you have the space ... Use it well !! Breakfast areas in morning sunshine work well and evening sun in the lounge is good - inside outside fireplaces can work really well and everybody needs storage for summer /winter stuff (ski /scuba /suitcases etc ) so worth adding in storage somewhere accessible (like utility room ) for that sort of gear too ! Comments (25)Wow, I didn't expect so many responses, thank you so much for your time and ideas. I do know that the art is wrong but had to put something up from our last house while we settle in. I do find the fireplace a bit un-friendly and so I would consider changing the colour of it even just the border of it like one of the photos shows. I'm not keen on the small computer cabinet or the ladder shelving I have to admit. I was thinking more of putting 3 full width cherry wood shelves, bottom one being wider and desk height, changing the light fittings to down lights and maybe having a wallpaper or painted backdrop behind the shelves?? I realise I would have to get rid of or change the wallpaper on the other wall and change the curtains too. I take your point, many of you said it, about the curtains needing to fall straight, but I will need a wider pole to do that. Comments (19)The rules may have changed but when we built our extension the wall adjoining our neighbour had to be completely within our own boundary. It looks as if your neighbour has continued along the party wall and therefore half the depth of the wall is on your land. It might be worth getting a chartered building surveyor to check it out as otherwise it may cause difficulties when either you or your neighbour come to sell. If I'm wrong about this maybe a professional on here could correct me. We are now thinking a max 30 sq metre extension and we'll have to tear down the poorly constructed extension that's there at the moment that houses the kitchen and utility etc. The front room will be a formal Living room and the next room which is currently the dining room will become the open plan living dining kitchen. I need to include a utility playroom and office in there somewhere too...See More
