Oak internal doors and trim

Hi I am going to have oak doors and trim in my new house and the window frames are black vpvc. Are there any paint colours/wallpapers/carpet or wood flooring I should avoid or go for in particular. Thanks

Hi if you want dark colours through out your home you can use the dark colour on wood work example flooring if you go for dark oak do the doors and frame and skirting to a lighter tone of the floor or if would like to break the continuous of the colour of the door frame you can stain the skirting boards white or a neutral colour but white does bring the skirting board stand out

Thank you - I wondered about having dark/light oaks and was concerned about "having too many colors"?

Stained doors and painted trim are very common. You can see examples in the "browse rooms" section of Houzz. I think it works great! Of course, I have the same thing going on in my house!

Hi Travis and SoYoung - thanks for mentioning the fireplace.....I was thinking that I would keep it simple with a wood shelf over it and a large piece of Art but I now think it might be a bit lost. Would love some ideas as it needs to work with the built-ins which are slightly domineering. Also, Liam_Boyle - agree re the unbalance. The TV will be staying but I have a lovely coffee table and 2 identical sofas coming so I'm hoping to lay out symmetrically in the room. Will keep 1 of the chairs. Hope this will balance up. Thanks.

If the hall is that narrow and dark, walnut is not going to help as you've said. I assume you favour darker woods so wouldn't be keen on a light oak? If you really want the doors, add decent lighting. Go for an off white paint with a cream undertone with reflective particles. Add mirrors or anything reflective to bounce the light around. Painting the skirts and architraves white would help but I assume you want these left natural? Just a long shot but have you considered white doors with a walnut floor?!

Paint the doors black matt and the fames cream add silver crome door furniture. Huge silver mirror above the covered radiator then add a runner of any colour you like and match it with the lamps and lighting. hey presto done.
