Have you had any heat issues with the tv this close to the fireplace?

We just installed our tv over the Montigo fireplace and I'm a bit worried about how much heat it puts out. I may have my metal fabricator add a few inches to the mantel. We also have a stone surround, then the rest of the upper is acid washed steel w/a steel shallow ledge. Thank you.

Hi sanctuaryhome, no - we have had no issues with heat. First - there is about 16-18" from the top of the fireplace to the t.v. Second the t.v. has a near zero clearance from the face of the cabinetry. Third the small mantle that steps out a few inches provides a simple barrier. Fourth, the unit is equipped with thermostatic fans that blow heat out into the room, rather then letting it just radiate up. Hope that helps!

I concur with the above comment: Just have archways installed rather than doors - not only will it be more open but it will be less costly... ...tho to open the living room even more, consider relocating the LR fireplace to the opposite wall and centering a larger archway to the hall opposite it - where the fireplace is located now. I might also consider installing an archway or doorway to the left of the fireplace in the sitting room - It will make your sitting room less of a dead end and passage to your study, kitchen and powder room more direct.

Hello CG, you can buy some of these and try them on site. From the pictures you posted I get the feeling you have 2 colors with similar saturation both fighting for attention. It's a little too much. I would keep the green but go softer on the red (i.e rust). You can also let yourself be inspired by the grey/silver/bordeaux floral and stripe pillows to create a brand new color scheme using these colors instead. For example, a very soft gray on the walls, gray carpet, grey/bordeaux combo in the curtains and for the sofa accents, pillows similar to these 2. It's decision time. Go for what speaks to you, but do it with elegance :-)

Wow, I didn't expect so many responses, thank you so much for your time and ideas. I do know that the art is wrong but had to put something up from our last house while we settle in. I do find the fireplace a bit un-friendly and so I would consider changing the colour of it even just the border of it like one of the photos shows. I'm not keen on the small computer cabinet or the ladder shelving I have to admit. I was thinking more of putting 3 full width cherry wood shelves, bottom one being wider and desk height, changing the light fittings to down lights and maybe having a wallpaper or painted backdrop behind the shelves?? I realise I would have to get rid of or change the wallpaper on the other wall and change the curtains too. I take your point, many of you said it, about the curtains needing to fall straight, but I will need a wider pole to do that. Again many thanks, AnnaMarie ps we are in Ireland now but lived in australia for many years and that picture over the mantle is of an old aussie shed with moon light on it.

I think it might work better to have blinds on the wall with the smaller windows (perhaps in a plain colour) and have curtains on the main stretch of windows, using the existing curtains to replace the small roman blinds. This would allow the fantastic view to be the main focus. I do think plain curtains would work well here but you perhaps aren't keen to change them as they are new? Could they be used elsewhere? I also agree re moving the sofas so they aren't at angles, it looks a bit strange. Maybe try them in a u shape around the fire. And perhaps painting the door frame white might make the room feel calmer. Where did you find your lovely footstool btw?
