Need help with shower in dormer bathroom

Need help please! We have just purchased our first home which is a dormer. Our main bathroom is upstairs in the dormer and has a wet area type shower with a glass brick wall (see pictures). When we moved in I noticed the grout on the floor around the shower area is very discoloured and eventually worked out that when anyone takes a shower, water bounces off their body out of the enclosure and out onto the tiles outside the shower area. This is now causing damp patches in the ceiling downstairs and so we have to shower with a big bathtowel on the floor to mop up the water. We want to do something to fix the problem but we have limited funds for the job so trying to avoid having a custom made shower door. We considered moving the glass blocks to the correct side but given the dormer roof this isn't feasible. All suggestions and advice is very welcome! Thank you!

I would simply add a glass door. A good glass man should be able to cut and install a custom door for relatively cheap.

I agree with the above but you will need to address the dampness that is finding it's way through to the ceiling below or you may have black mould growing and that isn't a good problem to have....you may need to consider replacing the shower and bathroom floor in the future though....not a "fun" job but it could be necessary...

If you are using an installer they should be able to give you more tips on the best layout. Light coloured or white tiles will make the space feel bigger, maybe adding a line or border of another colour to add interest. Hi there, We're in Kilkenny and we're lighting designers. A lot depends on budget but if you are re-fitting areas we could recommend fittings for the walls plus how about highlighting the top of wall with a good bathroom uplighter around edge - LED perhaps. The issue is that it is too flat as the colours are similar. If you added more depths of light it would help greatly. Of course we do a full range of bathroom fittings too so even a simple thing like two well chosen wall lights would help significantly. Simple splashing should not cause dampness like that. I would be concerned that you have a leak in that showerpan. It is best to get that inspected fast and repaired before the damage grows.

For the time being (and this IS only a temporary fix) try using a water based penetrating sealer on the grout. I stress water based, because solvent based sealers today are made to be "breatheable", meaning they allow moisture to transmit back and forth, while the water based sealers will repel water. You still need to address this in a more permanent manner (the glass door is a good idea, but it wouldn't hurt to remove the bathroom floor tile, waterproof the floor, and install a new tile floor), but this will help until you can afford to do what you need to do.
