Living Room Lacking

I just recently moved into my new home, and my living room is lacking in something but I can't put my finger on it. Is the furniture positioned corrected? Or us the colour scheme off? I wanted a mismatched looked. I would love some help or any advice. I haven't hung any photos yet or dressed the large apex window.

You could definitely pull the sofa forward, so you have access to the patio doors. I would place the loveseat under the window and the chair where the loveseat now is. A larger rug would be better and I like your fireplace, but think it would be much better without the mantle. There's a start :-)

I would suggest moving the large couch to face the love seat. That way it creates more of a conversation setting and it would really open up the view to the beautiful apex window. I would also suggest adding pops of color to add dimension to space. Have fun and share photos!

I agree - paint or paper the chimney breast in that burgundy/red shade of the fire surround tiling. Your curtains are lovely - methinks I'd be choosing a throw to match for the sofa + chairs, and I see you already have red cushions to accessorise.

I think the only place you could put a tv is probably the corner by the window...over the fireplace is probably too high. a walnut floor and new fresher paint colour would be lovely, would you consider painting the skirting boards and fireplace white or off white to modernise them a bit? we've painted the skirting in our living room (also a walnut floor) and it looks so much better than before. (Have yet to get around to the rest of the house!!)

Replace the bland rug and plaid pillows. Try the larger sofa on the larger wall with art above it. Put a smaller rounded more feminine coffee table with it to enhance the curves. Use the squarish masculine matched lounger set on the TV side of the room with sofa under the window and chair floating at an angle to TV. Use the beige rug with them. Hang the TV on the wall on an articulated arm for adjustable viewing. This way you create two different areas, leaving the doors and view out the back open. TV can still be viewed from all points.

Thank you for all the suggestions. I was thinking maybe a pop of blue with accessories, with china lamps or vases? There is a blue/grey hue in the large fabric

Don't forget plants. A few healthy plants of various sizes- on floor and a table here or there will liven up the space.

I think part of what is throwing it off is that the exterior is still unfinished. Once that is complete it will help. I would focus on a larger rug, and the go from there based on what you select. The next thing would be panels/curtains for the door that can be open during the day, but then close at night. I would not put any coverings on the top portion. Good luck and enjoy your new home!

You have a beautiful home. one idea for wall decoration is a water wall. This will also help create that relaxing and soothing space that many people are looking for in their homes. Water walls are not only pleasing to the eye but they also help clean the air by attracting dust particles.

A larger rug with a pattern or color would help pull it all together. Maybe a decorative floor lamp, too. You have a beautiful room and nice furniture, but something bothers me when a couch blocks access to the outdoors. Try moving things around - and maybe not so close to the patio doors.

i also wouldnt be too happy with this design, ist very boring, all Brown and tan... so. get some nice blues and teals for throws and cushions, maybe with bit of yellow in it
