POLL: What do you use your guest room for?

Spare bedrooms can be amazing as they can serve so many different purposes. Fit for guests, but also great for storage, or doubling up as home offices, they can really be multi-tasking spaces.

What does your guest room look like? Is it just a spare room for various purposes or does it actually serve as a guest room, and a guest room, only?

as a library, with a sofa bed (from IKEA) The kids love to relax in here, and it's super easy to throw some bedding on, when friends turn up. Also those little 'treasures' the kids bring home from school get displayed here (instead of being chucked in a drawer like i used to!!)

I designed my guest room with fold away beds to give me space to sew. It is usually set up that way. .I keep my ironing board in there and I can dry a bit of washing too.

Wow, I really like this design and the rest of the house....really has a lovely flow to it and is very bright. My only concern with opening up the original living room to the hallway would be that the existing house is poorly insulated and would leave the front room cold during the winter. I imagine the existing front room as a dynamic room in that the doors to the dining room can be closed, a stove fire turned on and it would be a quiet reading/relaxing zone in the house. Though I must admit...the above example provided is really tempting. thanks Dytecture!

How do I co-ordinate my living room with this wallpaper seem to have a lot of the same colour

HI -- Well the wallpaper was just done so there is no changing that , soooo I think you should paint the rest of that wall the same white as the white background of the wallpaper and paint fireplace mantel too. Then have two small matching cabinets painted the blue from the paper or the leaf color placed on each side of the fireplace. . Then have white or glass shelves above , maybe three is best . Now the rest of the room painted the exact color of your sofa . Because the room looks small I think it would look best to have the sofa blend into the walls color wise. Now just keep some of your room accents in the blue color but not too much. Remember not to clutter the shelves and if you don't want the shelves then have a large painting on each side and have a big round mirror over the mantel and keep the small items off the mantel and onto the side cabinets .

You need some kitchen accessories kettle etc that tie in with the red and also some artwork. The red you have chosen looks on my monitor to be a cool red, perhaps a bit of a warmer shade would help. i would also extend the dining area curtains down to the floor, they will cosy up the space, as would a statement rug to give a bit more life to the room. If your living room is green then it may be nice to have some token green of the same shade, somewhere in the kitchen, a plant or some artwork, and add a bit of the kitchen red to your living room, so that there is some continuity of colour in your home, as opposed to having two separate colour boxes and never the twain shall meet..

This is the room... Believe me this is an old house and the refurb is on the way so as they say" look past what's there now" it's connected to a corridor and in front of it is the front if the house with porch and large windows. I would love to make this a front to back look but it is below a road at the back and just looks into a yard! The views are magnificent at the front as we over look the sea ! I'm so stool on ideas. To the right is the bathroom to the left we are building a utility room... My initial thoughts were that I would like it to be an extension of the hall.. Help!

My fiance and I live on our own and have 2 spare rooms. One is an office with a pull out bed and the other is kitted out as a guest bedroom but we use the wardrobe space for out of season clothes and also the room to dry out laundry.
The idea of having 2 spare bedrooms (and our living room sofa also turns into a bed) is that we can have family and friends over. Being French and living in Yorkshire it's important I can do that when people come and visit.

We have two guest rooms. One of them is a study with a sofa bed in it, so it doubles as an occasional guest room. We made the larger one into our master bedroom so we could make the really big master bedroom with its en suite shower room into a second lounge, wired it for Sky.

Its main function is as a lounge/family room but we also put a double sofa bed in it. So when guests come we can give them their own loo and shower room and their own TV.

We also have a nature reserve off that first-floor room so we replaced the windows with a large picture window in order to create a reading and relaxation area in it with a view, and our guests enjoy that too.

My guest room is used to store out of season clothes and luggage (under the bed). I also rent out the room to English language students as I live close to a local university where they study. I actually love meeting people from loads of different countries and often stay in touch with ex guests so it's a win win situation

The dumping ground is meant to be turning into an upstairs bathroom, with a bath, if I can just figure out where to put all that stuff!

We are lucky to have two spare rooms, one is a guest room, the other (a box room) is about to be turned into a mini makeshift kitchen whilst our old kitchen is being ripped out and the back and side of the house extended. I'm looking forward to turning it back into a guest room though as Houzz has given me some fab ideas.

My spare room has no bed. I use it as my dressing room. I do my hair in there and also dry washing. There is no room for guests!

Our spare room is our wardrobe/dressing room. We keep all clothes out of our bedroom - when not on the floor :( )

We have two guests rooms and they are both kept for when our son and his family stay. We use the wardrobes for out of season clothes, spare shoes and my handbag collection and for the clothes we hope to get back into when the diets finally work!

As no-one stays anymore, I swapped my lounge with my spare room (flat). I now have a lovely square lounge just for TV and chats etc. My spare bed is in my new 'craft room' just in case but it is covered with paper, clay, frames, paint and records. I paint and listen to old rock and metal that I can shout along to!!!

Exercise bike,tread mill.Winter or summer PJ's in draws. And old clothes in draws for painting decorating.
